The Tree Hugger Project is an ongoing project aimed at raising awareness towards the vital importance of re-establighing a connection with nature.
Started in 2005 from the artistic collaboration between Agnieszka Gradzik and Wiktor Szostalo, the itinerant project consists of public installations. Human figures are realized by weaving sticks, branches and twigs. They hug the trees populating the parks and locations of choice, lonely or in groups.
These playful and poetic installations have a literal message: they are like actors of street theatre and, through their actions, the public is invited to think. Even more, to imitate their example.
Hugging trees is said to have beneficial effects in balancing our health. The Tree Hugger Project is an invitation to restitute the favour through critical awareness for a natural world under constant threat.
